Zambian Adventures - Photographic JournalArrival

Just a word of introduction before we start.... This photographic journal is a work of love in process, so it gets attention as I have the time to devote to really thinking about what I want to share about each of the photos and their subjects.   This is the first time the site has been accessible to anyone but friends and family, so I hope you enjoy it. Please be respectful of copyright and don't steal either the images or the ideas. If you would like to use any of them for some reason, please contact me. I would love to hear from you and I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks!! Diana

Jacaranda Blossoms One of the first things I saw when we landed at the Lusaka airport was a grove of trees completely covered with purple flowers.   I had never seen jacaranda trees before, and I was enchanted with them.  It was such a welcome sight after so many hours cramped in the jet on the way over.

Val, one of our guides, rescued us from paperwork and visa nightmares at the customs desk once we got into the airport and took us to the Lusaka Holiday Inn (!).  Strange to stay in such a Western place - complete with Tex-Mex restaurant and Irish Pub!

Crocodiles lazed in the pool at the hotel - they were fed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.   I expect they supplemented their diet with weaver birds, when they could catch them... Hot Crocodile The crocodiles seemed to cool themselves by opening their mouths.  Mmmm... hot crocodile breath....
Weaver Bird A colony of raucous weaver birds lived in the grasses and trees growing in and around the pool at the hotel.  In the photo on the right, a male displays the nest he built in hopes of attracting a mate.  The photo below shows a male just leaving the start of a new nest to go get some more grass for building.  Weaver Bird
