Cardiau Fflach When I am reading and come across a word that is unfamiliar (or one that I really want to commit to memory), I'll add it to one of my flash card pages. I add words to the page until I have 100 entries to work with and then start another page. The structure looks like this : The first checkbox toggle is the word in Welsh. The second checkbox toggle is the part of speech. Third is the main definition in English (the one I was most interested in remembering at the time I entered it) and the fourth is where I put secondary meanings, idiomatic usages I have come across or something else I thought might be useful. So, here is how I use this. To practice Welsh to English, I will leave the first toggle checked and see if I can remember the English translation for the Welsh word. To work from English to Welsh, I will uncheck the first toggle and check the third, where the English definition has been entered. That way, I can drill myself in both directions. If there is a question about whether the word in question is a verb, noun, adjective or adverb, I can toggle the second box and that will give me the information I need to choose the correct Welsh form for a word. I have just gotten started with this and it will grow, as I read more and encounter new words. I'm particularly interested in words that I am likely to encounter in every day speech (chatting, listening to the news, etc.), so if you have suggestions that would be helpful to you in that regard, send them my way and I'll add them to the mix. I want this to be a useful tool for learners!Oh, and the other cool thing about this little application is that if you don't get a flash card right the first time and click the "Wrong" button, it will remember the word you missed and drill you on it again until you get it to your satisfaction. Click "Restart" to begin |
