Is this a federally funded project?
With the exception of a few temporary staff members, funded by the Boone
County commission, this is a voluntary effort. More than 200 members of
the community have donated time and energy to identify these issues and
seek solutions.
What assessment tools were used to identify priorities?
Many data sources were used, including the 1995 Boone County Community
Health Assessment, sponsored by the Boone County Commission, the
Community Partnership and the Missouri Department of Health. Information
also came from the 1995 Community Needs Assessment, conducted by Horizon
Research, Inc., and sponsored by the United Way, the City of Columbia and
the Missouri Department of Social Services. Technical support was
provided by the State Health Department and University Outreach and
Extension.
How were grades assigned?
Grades were assigned by the teams after they studied statistics and other
information about their issue for Boone County and other communities.
Who is in charge of this project?
The Columbia Chamber of Commerce created a Health Care Task Force in
September 1995. The task force's goal was to improve community health by
developing a vision of a collaborative health care system that would make
the most of existing resources. The Boone County Health Report Card
project is an offshoot of that initiative. Under the leadership of Bob
Bailey, assistant dean of the MU School of Law, the project's 14 team
issue public reports on community health issues and offer strategies for
improvement.
