Missouri Population Trend Analysis 1990-1999

NOTE: New, relatively untested application. Please report any problems to the author.

This application gives you access to population trends with components of change for Missouri during the decade of the 1990's. You get to choose the variables, time periods and geographic areas of interest. Output can be in the form of a report and/or bar charts depicting the chosen variables for the chosen time periods and geographic areas. See below for information regarding the source of the data used in this application.

For more information about how to respond to the choices presented on this form see the Help page.   The Help links () at the top of each section will take you to the precise location with the Help page related to that section.

Geographic Options

Data will be shown for counties within a geographic universe that you select from one of the five selection menus below.
Or, you can choose (by checking this box ) to use the entire state as the universe, in which case the areas you select below become the units (instead of  counties);  and you can then choose "ALL" or make multiple selections.  If you make choices from more than 1 of these menus only the ones from the left-most menu will be used.

UM Extension Regions Metro Areas (current)
MO portions only
Regional Planning Councils Commuting Zones
MO portions only
User-specified
One or More
Counties

Show data summarized for the entire universe (i.e. State, UM Ext Regn, MSA, RPC, etc.)

If your universe is based on user-specified counties (right-most selection menu, above) enter a name for the area (optional):

Time Periods

Select the time period(s) for which data will be shown. (All periods are from July 1 to July 1 unless specified otherwise).
Note: It is strongly recommended that you choose time intervals of the same length when doing charts to avoid misleading comparisons.

Single Years
(or less)
Two-year periods Other Multi-year periods

Check this box if you would like to have all component-of-change data annualized.  (For example, population change for a 3-year period would be divided by 3 to produce an annual average for the period.  The population estimate data item is not affected by this option.)

Data Items

Specify the data item(s) to be reported and/or charted:

* Population estimates will be reported as of the end of each time period.

Output Options

Indicate whether you would like to see (for each data item selected above) :

One chart per geographic area showing data for multiple years, or  One chart per year showing multiple geographic areas.

Specify Title to be used with all output:

Choose the type(s) of output you would like to generate:
Report               Bar Charts: Horizontal Vertical None

Device Driver GIF570 GIF730 (bigger) JPEG

Use Frames to display Table of Contents and Output simultaneously
Store each chart (graph) in a separate file

Show SAS Log only (for debugging)

Indicate the service you want to run under (specify launch service only if pool service does not respond) :

sasapp (pool service)       appdev (launch service)

The original source of the data for the application is the U.S. Census Bureau's Annual Time Series of Population Estimates and Demographic Components of Change: April 1, 1990 to July 1, 1999 (Missouri subset).  Not all of the data available in the Bureau's file is accessible from this application.  However, users wishing to access the complete original data (as restructured by the staff of the Missouri State Census Data Center) can do so using the MSCDC's uexplore/xtract web application to access the data stored in the popests/mocom99 data set.
