American Community Survey Housing Data Released for 2005
The median value of Owner-Occupied Housing Units in Missouri was $123,100 in 2005.
Missouri ranked 35th nationally, including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The median value for the U.S. was $167,500. Missouri value was approximately 75 percent of the national median value. The median value in California, $477,700, was 285 percent of the national median.
Two states, California and Hawaii, had median values over $450,000 ( See Table 1). The District of Columbia, Massachusetts and New Jersey had median values between $400,000 and $300,000. Eleven states had median values between $200,000 and $300,000. Twenty-nine states had median values between $200,000 and $100,000. Seven states had median values under $100,000.
For 2005 data from the ACS is available for 16 Missouri counties. The median value of owner-occupied housing among these Missouri counties ranged from $180,200 in Platte County to 79,400 in Jasper County ( See Table 2).
Data from the 2005 ACS are available for geographic areas with a population of 65,000 or more. In 2008 ACS data will be available for many more areas and in 2010 for all census areas. The ACS samples about 3 million households each year. The Margin of Error shows the 90 percent confidence interval for these sample estimates.
