Welcome to the DESE Socio-Economic Indicator Resource web site. The web site is a joint collaboration between the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis (OSEDA). The goal of the collaboration is to provide census information for use in planning, grant writing, and project development. The Indicator Resource Web Page makes available data, maps, tables, charts and graphics and analysis at multiple levels of geography including block groups within school district boundaries.
Indicators are organized by category and geography. The indicators included were selected to succinctly describe important socio-economic attributes of the population of a geographic area. Indicators are available for individual school districts as well as DESE Supervisor Areas. As an overview, some significant indicators are mapped for the state of Missouri to illustrate variation by school district, region and population density. Indicators for school districts are viewable by block group or census tract, depending on the format selected. Indicators for Supervisor Areas are viewable by school district and block group.
To begin using the DESE Socio-Economic Indicator Resource, please select a tab. The contents of each tab is briefly described below:
-
Maps - First select your geography of interest, you can then browse by category and within each category select an indicator to view. For statewide and Supervisor Area maps, you may then choose to view the indicator data organized by school district or block group. All school district maps display data by block group. When you select an indicator, the map will appear in a new window. If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser, please use the 'expand to regular size' icon to fully display the image.
-
Analysis - For each school district a report is provided that describes some key demographic characteristics of the district's population as reported in the US Census 2000. The analysis section will be periodically updated with new reports and information. Select a school district to view reports.
-
Charts/Graphics - There are some key demographic indicators that tell an immediate and important story about a population, both its needs and its capacity. Selected key indicators are displayed in graphic form for each school district. When you select an indicator, the graphic will appear in a new window. If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser, please use the 'expand to regular size' icon to fully display the image.
-
Tables - To view an indicator table by Supervisor Area or school district, please select the desired geography, category, and indicator. If the geography selected is a Supervisor Area, a data table will be generated in a new window for each district in alphabetical order. If a school district is selected, the data for that district's indicator will be generated in a new window in tabular form.
-
Trend Reports - Tabular trend reports are available for comparably-defined US Census 1990-2000 indicators by Supervisor Area and school district geographies. Supervisor Area reports provide school district-level frequencies, percents of population, and percent change in population between 1990 and 2000. School district reports provide block group-level frequencies, percents of populations, and percent change in population between 1990 and 2000. Reports are generated in a new window.
