Description |
Agricultural education is comprised of a
group of related courses designed to prepare students for one of several types of
agricultural occupations. These typically include agricultural production, agribusiness
supplies and services, agricultural mechanics, agricultural products, ornamental
horticulture, forestry, and other agricultural resources. Programs may be designed to: (a)
prepare individuals for original entry into an occupation or (b) provide supplemental
educational experiences to adults so that they become better performers in an occupation. Partial
financial support is provided for instructional salaries and equipment for approved
programs. |

applications, etc. Partial financial support is provided for instructional salaries and

JTPA funds may be used to pay for all costs directly attributable to the program,
except where funds from other sources are available for the same or similar purpose. |

Description |
Family and Consumer Sciences Education is a
group of related courses that generally prepare youth and adults for family life,
emphasizing the acquisition of knowledge and the development of attitudes, standards,
values, and skills relevant to individual and family life and nurturing. Prepares
individuals for balancing work and family roles and enhancing employability skills.
Includes instruction in consumer education, food and nutrition, family living and
parenthood education, child growth and development, housing and home management (including
resource management), and clothing and textiles. Programs may also be designed to help
students acquire competencies (including skills and job attitudes) needed for securing and
holding paid employment at the entry and advanced levels and/or preparing for advancement
in occupations utilizing family and consumer sciences education, knowledge, and
competencies. Occupational family and consumer sciences clusters relate to the areas of
child care and guidance workers and managers; clothing, apparel and textile workers and
managers; institutional food workers and administrators; home furnishings and equipment
installers and consultants; custodial, housekeeping, and home services workers and
managers; and other areas of human services. Partial financial support is provided for
instructional improvement, salaries, and equipment for approved programs. |

Instruction is organized to prepare students
for occupational objectives concerned with assisting qualified personnel in providing
diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, restorative, and rehabilitative services to people,
including understandings and skills essential to provide care and health services to
patients. Some occupations require licensure from state boards and/or national
certification. Examples of health occupations programs are: health occupations, dental
assisting, practical nursing, and nursing assistant. Partial financial support is

The grant award program provides limited
financial support for implementing an industrial technology education program. The
emphasis of the effort is to focus on assisting students in developing insight,
understanding, and application of the technological concepts and processes to systems of
industry. The program is designed to stimulate the development of goals, objectives, and
activities that reinforce technology, its evolution, impact, utilization, and career
opportunities in industry. Partial financial support is provided for curriculum
development and/or revision, industrial technology workshop expenses, resource materials,
and equipment. An approved budget is required. |

Description |
Provides funds for the implementation and
maintenance of programs in marketing and cooperative education. Marketing education
provides instruction in marketing, merchandising, and management with the goal of
preparing individuals for marketing and management occupations. Cooperative occupational
education (COE) offers a work-study program for persons who, through a cooperative
arrangement between the school and employers, receive related vocational instruction by
the alternation of study in school with on-the-job training in a variety of occupations.
Cooperative industrial education (CIE) offers a work-study program for persons who,
through a cooperative arrangement between the school and employers, receive related
vocational instruction by alternation of study in school with on-the-job training in
industrial occupations. Partial financial support is provided for instructional salaries

Description |
The Perkins Act provides funds to a limited
number of public institutions to supplement and improve Vocational Education programs
offering a sequence of courses which are directly related to the preparation of
individuals in paid and unpaid employment in current or emerging occupations requiring
other than a baccalaureate or advanced degree. Programs include competency-based applied
learning, which contributes to an individuals academic knowledge, higher-order
reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employment skills, and
occupational-specific skills necessary for economic independence as a productive and
contributing member of society. |

Only public educational institutions are
eligible to apply for funding. Funds are targeted to serve individuals who are members of
special populations (disadvantaged, handicapped, single parents, displaced homemakers, and
single pregnant women), secondary students (Grades 9-12), postsecondary students, and
adults enrolled in vocational education programs. |

Formula grants allocating funds to secondary
school programs are based on Chapter 1 funds, numbers of handicapped served, and
number of students enrolled in school. Postsecondary and adult programs receive funding
based on the schools proportion of Pell Grant recipients compared to a state total.
Grants are made for community-based organizations, consumer and homemaking education,
technical preparation education, single parents and displaced homemakers, single pregnant
women and sex equity from competitive requests for proposals. |
