Description |
The state-assisted gifted program provides funds for the implementation
of special instructional services in the academic or fine arts areas to
meet the special needs of identified students. The programs provide
differentiated learning opportunities not available in a regular public
school program. Instructional sessions must be supplementary to the
regular instructional program in both content and cost. |
Eligible Recipients
or Participants |
Program services are available for up to 5 percent of the enrollment in
the school(s) or grade span(s) selected for participation. Each
participating student must be selected in accordance with criteria
published in the guidelines, which include evidence of outstanding
intellectual ability, academic achievement, creativity, and performance
in related areas. |
Funding or Grants
Available |
Discretionary grants are made on the basis of approved programs. State
funding may not exceed 75% of the approved teachers’ salaries and 75% of
approved special instructional materials up to $50 per student.
Allowable costs must be in addition to the costs that would have been
incurred by the district if it did not have a state-assisted gifted
program. |

Access Procedures |
Any public school district may apply. The Department has published
guidelines, application forms, and procedures for applying for funding.
Technical assistance is provided to prospective applicants upon request.
Applications are due on May 31 annually. |
