Description |
ECDA provides funds to public school
districts to implement preschool screening and parent education. Children are screened in
the areas of language, general development, hearing, vision and health, and physical
development. Parent education services are delivered through a combination of group
meetings with parents and personalized private visits. Programs may operate on a
year-round basis, but must operate for at least eight months of each year. All public
school districts are required to offer services and may contract for services with other
public or private not-for-profit agencies that have programs approved by the Department. |
Eligible
Recipients
or Participants |
Families with children ages birth to five may
participate in the parent education programs. Children who have not entered kindergarten
are eligible for screening on an annual basis. |
Funding or
Grants
Available |
Initial formula allocations are made to
public school districts based on needs and previous service records of individual
districts. Final payment is based on the actual number of program participants and level
of participation by families. Additional funds are available for the purpose of recruiting
new families with children ages birth to three and to offer additional parent
education services to families defined as high need. |
| Access
Procedures |
Each spring the Department sends necessary
application information to public school districts to be returned by July 1. Final
reports are required from school districts immediately following each fiscal year in order
to make final payments. |
